The show educates the public on genetic and public health topics through event coverage, news stories, book/movie reviews, and interviews. Guests include genetic counselors, researchers, patient advocates and professors in the field of genetics.

The show has featured interviews with many well known people in the field. Ellen Matloff, CEO of My Gene Counsel and lead plaintiff in the Myriad supreme court gene patenting case. Descendants of Henrietta Lacks (woman behind HeLa cells), Kimberly Lacks (granddaughter) and Veronica Spencer (great granddaughter). Robin Schwartz, a hereditary cancer genetic counselor in the field over 30 years.

DNA Today has been nominated in the Podcast Awards in 2015, 2016, and 2019 in the General and Science/Medicine category respectively.
