If you’re pregnant or thinking about pregnancy, you can choose to have prenatal genetic testing. There are two categories of prenatal genetic tests: screening tests and diagnostic tests. Watch this video to understand the different types of tests, learn when these tests can happen, and see how they are done. Get more information from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Types of tests reviewed in this video are carrier screening, serum screening, cell-free DNA screening (also called noninvasive prenatal testing, or NIPT), chorionic villus sampling, and amniocentesis.
